How to Develop Your Poker Strategy

Poker strategy involves complex mathematical logic. Unreliable information, risk management and deception are some of the factors that turn poker into a game of probability. Poker strategy actually demands intelligent guesswork from the players, as one does not know the cards of the opponents.

At poker, you should use pot odds in deciding your next moves once you hit the flop. In such a situation, either you will win or you would want cards to improve your hand. The good poker strategy would be to bet and raise when you have a made hand.

When you do not have a made hand, you draw. A good poker strategy enables you decide whether to call or fold using the 'pot odds'. You must first find out the number of cards that will make your hand the best hand. These cards are called outs.

In poker strategy, you only need to take the number of outs times 2 and then add 2 to work out the percentage of hitting an out. To find out the maxium bet you can call, you need to increase the chance of hitting a draw by the pot plus the bet.

An effective poker strategy would include a few things that you need to take care of while at the game. Some of them are-

1. You should always study your opponents. More so, when you are not playing hands and can be attentive.
2. You should play high pairs and your strong hands before the flop. By this, you will eliminate weak and garbage hands that may trouble you later.
3. When it comes to a straight, you should not draw to its low-end or both ends.
4. Usually, the unconnected medium and low cards including the suited cards that cannot flop a straight and are unplayable
5. You should be cautious while playing the starting low pairs.
6. When you have a two-way draw after the flop, you should get aggressive.
7. After a garbage flop, bet an Ace or two high over cards. If someone raises, fold it.
8. You can turn uniform flops into straights to overtake your high pair or other good hand.
9. You should be aware of suited flops that can form a completed flush.
10. By caught bluffing occasionally, you can make your moves hard to predict.
