Poker Rules You Need to Know

Poker rules follow definite patterns. However, you can have some amount of flexibility in them, which brings more action and excitement to the game. Poker is played with a deck of 52 cards. The players get five cards each. These cards are called hole cards and they come face down. Five other cards are placed on the table face up. These are called community cards and any player can use them to form a poker hand. According to poker rules, the players bet in the community pot and you could win the pot if you have the best hand.

Poker rules say the players can use both hole cards and community cards in combination to make the required hand of five. You can even use all the five community cards while playing. This is called 'playing on the board'.

At poker, the dealer is the last person to act and hence he enjoys the most advantageous position. However, poker rules enable every player to be the dealer at poker one after the other.

A game of poker consists of four betting rounds. While playing poker there are several poker rules followed and each round of betting includes different kinds of bets and actions. These include -

1. Compulsory Blind: The game begins as two players to the left of the dealer make compulsory bets.
2. Blind: Blind is the bet that comes after dealing of the first three community cards.
3. Check: Check is the zero bet that helps a player maintain his interest in the pot.
4. Bet or Raise: It is a bet with a larger amount than the previous bet. To maintain their interest in the pot the following players have to either exceed or match it.
5. Call: This bet is of equal amount with the previous bet.
6. Fold: When one surrenders the cards and stake in the pot in response to the bet or call, it is called fold.

There are several poker rules that are followed in deciding the winner in a game. Those include - straight, flush, straight flush, three of a kind, four of a kind, full house, one pair, two pairs and the high cards. In case of a tie, the winners get equal share of the pot.
